My Texecom Veritas alarm’s making a buzzing noise
The most common reason for a Veritas alarm panel to be making a buzzing noise is linked to the ‘transformer’. The transformer is the piece of electrical equipment that turns 240V mains power into 12V – which is the level of voltage used by alarm systems (and other low-voltage electronic equipment).

The reason for the Veritas alarm panel transformer humming could be linked to several factors (N.B. these examples are taken from experiences with a Texecom Veritas & Texecom Premier alarms):
- Transformer not properly secured: if the transformer is left loose in the alarm panel box, then it might lead the transformer vibrating against the physical box – resulting in the buzzing noise. To fix this you need to open the alarm panel – turn the power off, so there’s no power going through the transformer – and re-secure. N.B. if the alarm panel is attached to a plaster board wall, then not only might it be the transformer vibrating against the panel box, but also the panel box vibrating against the wall. This is a relatively dangerous thing to do, as you’re working with 240V, so if you’re not confident / well trained, then we’d recommend getting a professional to help you or getting remote telephone help (if you’re semi-skilled, but need some reassurance).
- Old transformer starting to fail: if the Veritas transformer is old or faulty in some way, then this could cause the transformer to start buzzing. A replacement Veritas alarm transformer is the best solution.
