Quick guide on how to stop a burglar alarm from beeping

Burglar alarms will emit a beeping noise to indicate that there is something wrong that needs fixing. The likely cause will be one of the following:

  • Low battery
  • Mains power failure
  • Tamper fault
  • Communication disconnection
  • System ARM Fail

Once you have ascertained which it is and fixed the problem, the beeping will cease.

Burglar alarms are designed to emit a beeping noise as a warning – to indicate that there is something wrong that needs fixing. Common reasons for beeping house alarms are: Low battery / Mains power failure / Tamper fault / Communication disconnection / System ARM Fail.

Low Battery: If your alarm has a low battery or a battery fault, then your alarm will beep intermittently and may also indicate a ‘battery fault’ on the panel – via a light or a message. To fix this requires you to change the system battery.

Mains Power Failure: If you have a power failure then until the power comes back on your alarm will carry on beeping.

Tamper Fault: If you have a tamper fault then the alarm will keep on beeping until the tamper has been fixed, or the zone omitted.

Communication Disconnection: If your alarm has been disconnected from the internet or telephone line, or if there’s a problem with your network provider then this will result in your alarm beeping – as a warning. In general, a ‘Com fault message’ should appear on your alarm panel too – to indicate this. To fix this you need to wait for your network provider to fix the fault.

The reasons why your alarm won’t arm is generally because a ‘zone’ is ‘open’- i.e. one of your sensors is ‘active. To check this, you will see a ‘zone’ indicated as active on your alarm panel. One of the most common reasons for an ‘open zone’ is if one of your door contacts is open – i.e. if you haven’t shut your door properly.
